Colour - I love it!
Just found out that I could copy and paste one post I had done on the Etsy Ireland blog to my own blog, fabulous ;o) See below a writeup I did on colour a few weeks back.
"Hi All, Margo from lilabelledesign here. Finally I get around to writing this post about a topic close to my heart, colour. I love it in all forms, whether on its own or clashing/ working alongside other colours.
Below is a quick overview of the theory and read further to the nice bit, the pics and links.
Colour - The Theory
The colour wheel is the starting point for any discussion on colour. It contains a mix of the primary colours; blue, red, and yellow. The corresponding secondary colors; green, orange, and violet. The tertiary colors; red–orange, red–violet, yellow–orange, yellow–green, blue–violet and blue–green.
According to established colour theory, adjacent colours harmonise well but, if you’re seeking to make a flamboyant statement, opposites combine to more dramatic effect.
There are many different combinations which work dependent on the look you desire:
o A tonal scheme (monochromatic) means you use a colour in different tones. There is one colour, but different tones of that colour (various shades of red for example).
o The harmonious colours are those that are close to each other on the colour wheel. For example, pink has purple on one side and red on the other side. Those are harmonious colours. Purple has pink on one side, and blue on the other side. These too are harmonious colours.
o The complementary colours are those that are opposite to one another on the colour wheel. For example: purple and yellow; blue and orange.
o The triadic colours are three colours on the colour wheel that are an equal distance from one another. A popular modern choice is red, blue, and yellow, and is for those who feel comfortable with a bold colour choice.

And when all else fails, go mad and create your own colour combo, you never know where this could lead ;o)

Lilabelledesign on Cuteable
It was a nice surprise to open my email after a few days away to see an email from cuteable.com saying that they had listed one of my items on their site. Thanks Lynsey for including my earrings. These pretty earrings are so eye catching. The white gold plated flower has a matte finish and a tiny cubic zirconia stone in the centre. The dark pink quartz stone is faceted and catches the light beautifully. See them in my shop here

A Bride's Guide To Etsy Ireland

Murano Glass - Beautiful Colours, Interesting History...
Murano glass is so delicate and pretty and I love picking up pieces with beautiful color combinations. Interesting history as well...
Murano is a little island very close to Venice, glass making here can be traced to the 7th century. In 1291, the Venetian Republic ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano because the glassworks represented a fire danger in Venice, whose buildings were mostly wooden at the time. It wasn't long before Murano's glassmakers were the leading citizens on the island. Artisans were granted immunity from prosecution by the notoriously high-handed Venetian state. By the late 14th Century, the daughters of glassmakers were allowed to marry into Venice's blue-blooded families.Such pampered treatment had one catch: Glassmakers weren't allowed to leave the Republic. If a craftsman got a hankering to set up shop beyond the Lagoon, he risked being assassinated or having his hands cut off by the secret police.
Why were Murano's glassmakers so special? For one thing, they were the only people in Europe who knew how to make glass mirrors. They also developed or refined technologies such as crystalline glass, enameled glass (smalto), glass with threads of gold (aventurine), multicolored glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo), and imitation gemstones made of glass. Their virtual monopoly on quality glass lasted for centuries, until glassmakers in Northern and Central Europe introduced new techniques and fashions around the same time that colonists were emigrating to the New World.
The process of making Murano glass is rather complex. Most Murano glass art is made using the lampworking technique. The glass is made from silica which becomes liquid at high temperatures. As the glass passes from a liquid to a solid state, there is an interval when the glass is soft before it hardens completely. This is when the glass-master can shape the material.

Bridal Inspiration
I have spent the weekend working on some bridal pieces, see my shop for some of the latest. Took a break today and went to see Bloom in the Phoenix Park. Fell totally in love with the arrangement above, how cool would this be in a vintage style wedding, fab fab fab ;o)
